do you find posing to seem awkward and inauthentic?

Traditional posing always seemed inauthentic to me. While it looked good in-camera, it usually did not get expressions and emotions I was trying to capture. Feeling frustrated with just trying to recreate poses from Pinterest, I turned to something different: Prompting. The idea of using prompts instead of poses when doing portrait photography is not new. I'm not the founder or creator of this idea. In fact, I got the idea from seeing advertisements for prompt guides on Instagram!

When I started integrating prompts into my sessions, I noticed a huge difference in my photos. Not only that but using prompts really helped make the sessions themselves more fun for my clients and for myself! When clients are having fun, they're more relaxed, and their true self really shines through.

do you ever forget the poses/prompts you memorized before a session?

I've been there! I used to scour Pinterest for ideas leading up to a session. Go through them in the car again while I waited for my clients to arrive. Then after the first few poses/prompts, I would totally blank! It wasn't until I really started identifying my favorite prompts to use during sessions that the flow came more naturally.

Do you feel as though you need some fresh ideas to help you grow?

I've been there too! While I do love sticking with my favorite prompts, I also love trying out new ones to see how they turn out and if I want to integrate them into my regular use!
